The Run Among the Lakes was originally established in the fall of 2001 as a way to unite the Windermere community in the wake of 9/11. Over the past 25 years, it has evolved into a meaningful tradition that represents community, resilience, and togetherness. Each year, the event brings runners, families, local businesses, and visitors together to celebrate health, fellowship, and the natural beauty of Windermere.
Hosted by the Windermere Parks & Recreation Committee, the race takes participants through the town’s iconic dirt roads beneath canopies of century-old oak trees and alongside its scenic lakes. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and picturesque course, the event has become a favorite community tradition for participants of all ages. Proceeds from the race directly support the preservation and enhancement of Windermere’s public parks, helping maintain the spaces that make the town so special.
