You’re invited to step into the fantastical world of artist and architect Jules Andre' Smith at the Art & History Museums in Maitland. Become inspired on a mini tour of our historic grounds where you’ll see some of Andre’s 2500 concrete reliefs adorned on the buildings, doorways, walkways and gardens. Our tour ends in our main garden, surrounded by a dozen artist studios that Andre’ built nearly 100 years ago, designed especially for visiting artists to live and work together in this creative and magical space. Afterwards we will have a sketching workshop in our garden! Children will learn about "plein air" (outside art) and then sketch their own masterpiece in our garden. Children will be able to add color to their art with watercolor pencils and experiment with paintbrushes and blending.
We'll end our time together by revisiting the architectural art of Andre’ Smith on a self-guided photo scavenger hunt. Afterwards, you’re invited to extend your outing with a picnic lunch right next door at Quinn Strong Park. Space is limited for students in grades K - 5 and their chaperones. Please note, that this is not a drop off program. Chaperones will need to stay with their child(ren) throughout the homeschool day, and due to the small capacity of the program, refunds are not available.
