Freedom Ride offers Therapeutic Horseback Riding lessons are taught by a PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor with a team of 1-3 volunteers per rider. Our lessons, both group and private, are held Monday through Saturday with specific goals set for each rider at the beginning of the session. Riders are encouraged to participate in tasks and games that help develop physical strength and cognitive improvement with an emphasis on horseback riding skills which are performed in a safe environment that is both therapeutic and fun.
Freedom Ride also offers a Mental Wellness program known as Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL). EFL breaks through resistance, increases motivation, and offers a serene, non-clinical environment rarely present in traditional talk therapy for both the therapist and the client. EFL empowers people to find hope in healing and solutions for life’s challenges. This effective therapeutic program has the added element of a unique creature, the horse, who is a master at reading body language, intent and emotion. The complete and honest feedback of the horse is the special ingredient that makes EFL so powerful. For each human being that is suffering from a loss or traumatic experience – the horses will take a fresh approach to what is needed most or least by that person and their situation. The horses also help to keep us focused on the individuality of the healing process.
