The Bob Makinson Aquatic Center opened in 1995 and received the 2007, 2016, and 2018 Platinum International Aquatic Safety Award presented by Ellis and Associates. Originally named the Kissimmee Family Aquatic Center, it was renamed the Bob Makinson Aquatic Center in 2003 in honor of former City Commissioner/Mayor Bob Makinson.
While the facility is open to the public on a seasonal basis, it operates year-round as a training center for competitive swimmers, lifeguards, and programs that teach people of all ages how to swim.
