The temple provides multicultural education, serve as a center for social functions and festival activities, and most importantly, through this, the Buddha’s teachings can be made available to benefit society through community outreach programs, and enhance the spiritual growth of Buddhist devotees through their everyday actions and pilgrimages. Our temple holds service every Sunday from 10:30am to 12:30pm. We also hold regular activities such as Buddhism discussion groups & study classes, meditation classes, and Chinese cultural classes.
The Main Shrine is the heart of the Guang Ming Temple. All our Dharma services take place here and we have weekly services on Sunday mornings, which you are welcome to attend. At other times, the shrine is open for everyone who wishes to pay respect to the Buddha. The Main Shrine can be used as a space for meditation. The Memorial Hall is situated behind the Main Shrine. According to Grand Master Hsing Yun, Humanistic Buddhism encourage looking after people throughout their lives. The Memorial Hall is aimed to provide a blissful place for the deceased and a bring peace to their families and friends. This also propagates filial piety and gratitude with blessing by Buddha and Bodhisattva. The memorial hall is managed by the Sangha. There will be continuous chanting throughout the day. Incense, flowers, lamps and fruits will be offered daily, and prayer services be performed annually to transfer merits in memories of the deceased to reborn in the Pure Land.
The Chinese name of the house is “Work place of drop water”. The name of Ch’an Abode-a drop of water tell us that we should appreciate what we have around us, cherish them and be grateful for them. Tea drinking has an important place in the traditions of Ch’an Buddhism, great monks have attained enlightenment through drinking tea.
