The Center for the Advancement of Science and Engineering magnet provides a rigorous integrated curriculum that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math. Students have a selection of science-based electives, combined with core curriculum that infuses STEM practices of inquiry-based thinking and project-based learning. Through Lockhart Middle School's business and educational partnerships, STEM electives introduce students to a variety of engineering fields. English language arts, social studies, and math teachers utilize STEM-based texts and focus on cross-curricular, grade-level projects. In addition, partnerships with nearby Edgewater and Wekiva High Schools allow mentorship opportunities and course progressions within their STEM-based magnet programs.
All students are part of Lockhart's award-winning STEM Club, which participates in robotic and design competitions. STEM principles are infused throughout the day so that students will have a college and career-building foundation to support their entire academic career.
