Second Harvest Food Bank

Second Harvest Food Bank

The Second Harvest Food Bank School Market Program establishes partnerships between not-for-profit community organizations, such as churches, Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis, and local middle and high schools in their community to specifically address teen hunger. School Markets provide free snacks, meal items, and fresh produce to students without question of need or eligibility. School Markets are essentially food pantries located in Middle and High Schools. However, they differ from a traditional food pantry because they are more focused on empowering teens and encouraging student ownership by allowing students to participate in the design of the market, its logo, and choosing its name. The name and logo can go on signs and bags for the students to use. Like a typical grocery store, students are free to choose what they need or want. Lastly, students operate the market when it is open. All schools are eligible to participate in the program because hunger does not have an address. Providing food resources to all income levels reduces stigma and fights food-based stereotypes. To start download the toolkit on our website.

We Love Volunteers! Second Harvest Food Bank relied on more than 39,000 volunteers last year whose hours totalled 111,420. It's pretty incredible to see so many caring individuals pass through our warehouse throughout the year. Our various volunteer opportunities offer fun and unique ways for individuals and groups to contribute their time, talents and resources to help our neighbors in need. NEW! Become a Virtual Volunteer: Start a Virtual Food Drive and help provide meals to your neighbors in need. Age Restrictions: Volunteers have to be at least 10 years old with a chaperone who is 18 years or older in order to help out in our facility, 16 years old without a chaperone. We also now have a "Family Night" or a "Family Day" for families with children ages 5-9 years old.

Scouting Group Volunteering are also welcome, a group consists of 5 or more volunteers.
