  of December. The event features live historical demonstrators, craft vendo
 rs and various foods for sale by vendors and local clubs. The origin of the
  term “Florida Cracker” refers to the cracking sound made by the whips used
  by early settlers to herd their cattle, hence the Floridians were called “
 Crackers”.<br /><br />This event celebrates the Florida Pioneer and the ric
 h history of the Christmas community.  It also showcases local history thro
 ugh a craft fair with handmade items, pioneer demonstrations, and community
  organizations displays. The event began approximately in 1977 as a small c
 elebration. It has gradually grown into the largest Fort Christmas Historic
 al Society event held at Fort Christmas Historical Park.
