 erson donation when visiting the gardens to help with the ongoing restorati
 on and operation of the historic site. There is also a Walking Tour availab
 le for use on your smartphone for a donation of $10. All ages are welcome t
 o join us in volunteering and working on projects, from weeding and mulchin
 g to maintenance on the home. Remember to wear comfortable closed-toe shoes
  as the paths are mulched! If you plan to work we encourage you to bring yo
 ur own gloves and water bottle. Open Gardens is held Tuesday and Wednesdays
  from 10-2pm and Saturday from 10-3pm. <br /><br />Nehrling Gardens is a mu
 st see tourist destination; a historical, horticultural, & environmental re
 source filled with original native architecture, and beautiful landscapes. 
 It's also the remaining 6 acres of pioneering horticulturist Dr. Henry Nehr
 ling’s Gotha home and gardens, & one of the first USDA experimental station
 s in Florida!  Nehrling Gardens serves as a natural oasis where all can lea
 rn from the valuable historic genome of the remaining plants and experience
  the peace and beauty of nature at this National Register estate and Florid
 a Heritage Landmark.  It was visited by many prominent people, including Th
 eodore Roosevelt, Thomas Edison, and renowned horticulturists David Fairchi
 ld and Liberty Hyde Baily.
