 a, this documentary invites viewers into the heart of Sarawja—a joyful musi
 cal tradition shared by the communities of Carumas, Cuchumbaya, and San Cri
 stóbal-Calacoa in the Ticsani Valley of southern Peru’s Moquegua region. To
 ld through the voices of those who keep the tradition alive, the film highl
 ights Sarawja’s vibrant role in community life.<br /><br />The name Sarawja
 , derived from the Aymara phrase for “I’m leaving,” reflects the journey of
  connection and celebration that takes place during the week after Holy Wee
 k. In honor of Christ’s resurrection, families form music and dance troupes
  to visit friends and relatives across the valley. Their hosts greet them w
 ith local products in a spirit of hospitality and, in a powerful act of rec
 iprocity, later join their own troupes to return the visit—keeping the rhyt
 hm of shared tradition in motion.<br /><br />Declared Cultural Heritage of 
 the Nation in 2010, Sarawja continues to bring thousands together each year
  in a dynamic expression of identity, faith, and joy.
