Apply to Become an Orlando Police Public Safety Cadet

Do you want to join the Orlando Police Department's educational program?

The City of Orlando’s Public Safety Cadets program is open to students ages 14–20. Cadets learn from Public Safety professionals, gain real-world experience, and develop leadership, fitness, and respect for the law.

Program benefits include national events, skills competitions, scholarship opportunities, and community service credits.

Step 1.Check your eligibility

To become a Public Safety Cadet, you must:

  • Be 14 to 20 years of age
  • Be in high school or college
  • Be of good moral character
  • Have no criminal history
  • Maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA

Step 2.Gather your materials

To apply, you will need:

  • Two or three personal references, including their phone numbers, home and email addresses. You cannot use a relative as a reference. Teachers, counselors, coaches and employers are good people to ask for a reference.
  • A scan or clear photograph of your current transcript or report card
  • Your parent or guardian available to sign your application if you are under 18
  • Your health insurance information
  • A three to five paragraph essay that explains what you plan to get from the Orlando Police Public Safety Cadets and your long-term career goals.
