Swimming Area Closure

Effective March. 24, 2025: Troy Spring is closed for swimming due to brownout conditions caused by high river levels. The park remains open for day use, and all other amenities are available for visitors. This notice will be removed when the spring is clear.

Welcome to Troy Spring State Park

This 70-foot-deep, first-magnitude spring offers opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.


Nestled in the shallow water of the spring run are the remains of the Civil War-era steamboat Madison, which was scuttled in 1863 to keep it from being captured.

A hidden gem in north-central Florida, Troy Spring State Park provides restrooms, an accessible walkway, picnic tables and a nature trail.

Only open-water scuba diving is permitted and divers must be certified. Solo diving is not allowed.

Wreck of the Madison

Walking along the boardwalk at Troy Springs State Park or snorkeling in the spring, you may notice an odd shape in the water, too uniform to be the limestone rock that crops up in other places below the surface. This is all that remains of the steam ship Madison, a relic from the Civil War.
